Take On Cloth Of Stars with Primero and Savoken at Saint-Cloud

3.50 Saint-Cloud

The first group class race of the year takes place at Saint-Cloud with a familiar name in Andre Fabre’s derby runner Cloth Of Stars being the favourite.

While Cloth Of Stars is the highest rated in here, he is saddled with a penalty and with many of Fabre’s horses needing their first run, it could provide a great opportunity for something at a bigger price.

Only 3 of the 10 runners have a run under their belt this year, in Primero, Savoken and Subway Dancer and it could pay to side with one of those runners.

At the prices, it is Primero that appeals the most at 14/1, who was as big as 25/1 earlier today with the UK bookmakers, he is currently around 6.70 on the PMU. This will be his first run on turf, having raced on the all-weather in all 5 runs to date. His form last year was pretty poor but has looked a totally different horse this year and showed a great turn of foot to win last time out by an easy 4 lengths at Cagnes-sur-Mer. It is a big jump up in class for Primero but he is worth chancing at the prices and in receipt of 3.5 kilos from the favourite.

At the weights, Savoken looks the most likely winner, racing off the same weight as Primero but is only rated a 1.5 kilo below the favourite, but receives 3.5 kilos and has a fitness edge. He comes in to the race on the back of 2 all-weather victories and a win in soft ground previously; he is currently available at 4/1 with the bookmakers and similarly priced on the PMU.
