23.18 Saratoga, Diana Stakes Preview

There may be only 6 runners in this grade 1, but it looks a great race with Lady Eli being taken on by the ex-French trained Antonoe and the big improver this year, Dickinson.

Lady Eli is going to be the short priced favourite, around even money but she is vulnerable trying to concede upwards of 3lb to the rest of the field. Dickinson beat Lady Eli in the Jenny Wiley Stakes at Keenland in April, with another of today’s runners, Quidura back in third. Both Lady Eli and Dickinson race off exactly the same weights while Quidura finds herself 3lb better off, with just under a length and a half to make up on the front two.

Antonoe was really impressive last time out against Dickinson but is now 8lb worse off after that ¾ of a length victory. There is little between the top 4 in the market, but Dickinson at 5/1 stands out, while the 11/1 about Quidura also appeals. There looks to be very little pace on which could play in to the hands of Dickinson who should take a forward position and possibly lead. Antonoe looked to benefit from a strong pace in the Just a Game Stakes, coming with a strong run up the rail to beat Dickinson in to third after she was forced wide, probably losing more ground in the process than the ¾ of a length defeat. Today’s race should be a very different pace scenario, and if it plays out that way then it should see Diskinson finish in front of Antonoe. At the prices, Dickinson is the one to side with in an intriguing race.
