Sacred Life Looks to Bounce Back at Chantilly, But Pagero Could Surprise

14.02 Chantilly, Grand Prix du Nord

Sacred Life looked like been one of the stars of the following classic season after two impressive wins on testing ground, but he has failed to match that level of form this year. For the first time this year he does get the testing ground conditions that he performed so well on as a juvenile and he could well bounce back to something like he showed as a 2-year-old. He has shown form good enough this season to be competitive here and I couldn’t leave him out now he finally gets soft underfoot conditions; at 3/1 with Corals I will back him but the horse that really interests me at a big price is Pagero.

Pagero has only run three times and is by far the least experienced, but he has won his last two races and he could be better than the bare form suggests. After winning his maiden at the second attempt he scrambled home in a conditions event at Deauville. He won that race by a half a length with Act Of God a further neck behind in third, whose form ties in with another of today’s runners Mr Satchmo. That form gives him the beating of that horse, having looked only to be doing enough, winning cosily after finally getting clear inside the final furlong. Andre Fabre’s Mind Mapping is the favourite following two wins, but he doesn’t look anything special and with Louis D’Or, who probably brings the best piece of form with his Prix du Jockey Club third place direly out of form I will chance Pagero at 16/1 eachway who looks to have been under-estimated by the bookies at his current price; he is currently just 7.90 on the PMU.
