Beauty Generation Looks Solid Over 1 mile in the The Chairman’s Trophy

Sunday, 9.05 Sha Tin, The Sprint Cup

This group 2 event sees Mr Stunning trying to concede 5lb to the field and he may well do so to all apart from his stable-mate Beat The Clock. The pair dead-heated for second place behind DB Pin in the group one Centenary Sprint Cup in January. While the weight concession swings it in favour of Beat The Clock, a lack of recent run for Mr Stunning swings it even more in his favour.

The slight reservation about Beat The Clock, is that he has finished second in his last three runs, even though they were all good performances he’s hasn’t won outside of handicap company. Mr Stunning on the other hand is a winning machine, winning 3 of his last four races and at the right price he would be the bet here.

At the time of writing only Paddy Power and Betfair are putting up prices with Mr Stunning at 5/4 and Beat The Clock at 7/4. The favourite doesn’t appeal at such a short price but if you can get bigger than 2/1 on Beat The Clock then that would be the bet here.

Recommended bet
Beat The Clock, 2/1+

Sunday, 9.35 Sha Tin, The Chairman’s Trophy

Time Warp looked very impressive last time out in the Hong Kong Gold Cup, setting a new track record for 10 furlongs in the process. This race sees him drop back to 1 mile and also shoulder a 5lb penalty which makes him very opposable here.

Pakistan Star, who escapes any penalty and could be the one to profit if his he’s in the mood for racing. He certainly isn’t the type of horse to chance at short prices as he’s prone to missing the break and has also pulled himself up in-running. He hasn’t won since December 2016 but has run some great races in defeat, though his current price of 11/4 hardly appeals.

Beauty Generation also has a penalty to carry which makes his task much harder, though 11/2 is a fair price with a good draw in stall 3 and he does know how to win, having won 4 of his last 6 races. While Time Warp and Pakistan Star are top class, they are really 10 furlong horses, whereas Beauty Generation is a Group one miler.

Recommended bet
Beauty Generation, 11/2 or greater
