Beat The Clock To Gain Revenge on Beauty Generation

7.30 Sha Tin, The Queen’s Jubilee Cup

Beauty Generation has been imperious over a mile in Hong Kong and is rated by far the best in here as well as being rated the world’s joint top-rated miler. He’s won his last 6 races over 1 mile and today’s distance of 7 furlongs, although he may prefer a mile he has been just as dominant over this furlong less when tried. Beat The Clock got within a head of beating Beauty Generation in this race last year when he was actually favoured in the betting ahead against the eventual winner. Both have improved massively since then and while Beat The Clock looks to have a big task against the favourite, he looks to be on an upwards curve having finally registered his first group one win in the 6 furlong Centenary Sprint Cup last time out.

In 18 course starts Beat The Clock has never been out of the first 3 and rates a solid each-way bet in a market that shapes up as a great each-way race with a heavy odds-on favourite. He has a great draw in stall 1 which will allow him to get a good position just behind the pace which his sure to be set by the favourite who has been drawn out in 8 and may need to go hard early to get to the lead.

8.05 Sha Tin, The Citi Hong Kong Gold Cup

Time Warp was an impressive winner of this race last year, in a race where he was allowed to dominate and set consistent fractions to break the track record. Things haven’t gone to plan for him since and it is his brother Glorious Forever that has overtaken him, unfortunately they both like to lead in their races which have comprised their chances on occasions when going off too hard upfront.

Glorious Forever was an impressive winner of the Hong Kong Cup in December when making the lead against his elder brother having made the best of a great draw while Time Warp was drawn out wide. The trainer of Glorious Forever, Frankie Lor had spoken before that race that he wouldn’t take on Time Warp for the lead but he was driven in to the lead aggressively by Silvestre De Sousa and never looked back as he lead and then kicked away in the straight. Lor is again speaking of not taking on Time Warp again but with a decent draw and Time Warp again being position out wide it could be a similar story again. While Exultant is the rightful favourite coming in to this race after two good wins I’m going to side with Glorious Forever at the prices.
